Give me characters, a setting, and problem!
In a student’s session, I asked her to give me a random setting, two characters, and a problem, to teach elementary introductory paragraph writing for narratives.
In six minutes, I wrote a draft as an example…
Characters: Lily, Michael
Setting: The forest
Problem: Internet is bad, can’t get on zoom
In the land of Falcia, near the Mediterranean Sea and Italy, there lived a young girl named Lily. She had long brown hair and sparkling blue eyes. She always loved being outdoors and hated when her school forced her inside for class. Her teacher was named Mr. Michael. He was a kind old man who taught Math, and it was Lily’s favorite subject and the only reason she attended school every day.
One day, Lily wanted to have her class in the forest. Why not? she thought. I love nature, and this way I can be where I love and I can still complete my schoolwork. But when she entered a meadow with blossoming apple trees and wildflowers, she found she had no internet!
If Lily wanted to have her class in the forest meadow, she would need to bargain with the Internet Troll if she wanted to attend Mr. Michael’s class in two hours…
